Last September, I sat down with Congressman Paul Ryan, now Republican candidate for Vice President of the United States, to get his thoughts about what we need to do to get America back on track.
I hope you can take a few minutes to listen to the interview.
Although Ryan is best known as chairman of the House Budget Committee, I learned from him that he understands that behind today’s economic and budget crisis is a moral crisis.
He understands that capitalism, moral behavior and healthy families are critical to our nation’s future.
As Ryan told me, “one thing government can do is not make things worse.”
This has been my message and CURE’s message since our beginning.
I wanted Paul Ryan to sit down with me because I know that his message needs to get into our low income and hard hit communities. If our nation will have a future, in order to restore prosperity, low income and minority Americans must understand their stake rebuilding healthy American capitalism. They need to understand that no, government is not their friend.
I’m writing to you because I’ve got to have your help in order to succeed.
Organizations like the NAACP, Urban League, and National Council of La Raza get hundreds of millions of dollars a year to tell low income Americans to fight against change and to demand more, not less, big government.
Through CURE and our nationwide pastor network, I’m alone fighting to tell low income Americans the truths about government and family that Paul Ryan is talking about.
The left will do anything to keep power and use government and socialism to enslave and impoverish America.
It is vital, as the vicious attacks and lies from the left on the reforms Ryan is championing start, that CURE keep its pastors informed about what is true.
Obamacare will place another 60 million people into Medicaid, a system that is already bankrupting states and underserving the poor. A new study shows that one of three doctors refuse Medicaid patients.
Pastors must also understand that a growing economy is essential for low income workers. Black unemployment is twice the national average. We must fight tax increases and cut government spending and debt to get our economy growing again.
