Using this medicine may help prevent medical problems caused by such substances clogging the blood vessels. Rosuvastatin (crestor) is available only with your doctor's prescription. Rosuvastatin (crestor) belongs to the group of medicines called 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitors. In rare cases, rosuvastatin can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue. This condition can lead to kidney failure, and may be more likely to occur in older adults and in people of Asian descent.
